A resolve also impacts our surroundings

The following is a story about Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar told by Mr. Thakar:

I had gone to Pandharpur for Dusshera in 1966. That very day, in the evening, there was a program for an aukshan (an auspicious lamp ceremony).  Since it was the first Dusshera of a young member of the family after marriage, they had also come with us.

There was some confusion and chaos in the preparation for the aukshan, and during this confusion, the lamp that was lit for the aukshan fell, extinguishing the flame.

It is considered to be very inauspicious for a light to fall and get extinguished. Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar was observing these events while sitting in a deep, meditative state. Seeing all the chaos and confusion in the house, Baba immediately yelled, “Its job is done.”

His statement turned out to be true. And after this, nothing inauspicious happened in that house ever again. Truly, Baba was an incarnate (avatar) of god.

Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar spoke about these obstacles an anxieties in his discourses, saying that if the human mind is scared, then the resolve or sankalp can have some effect on our surroundings. But there is a reason for why this happens. If a person remains neutral, serious, devoted to the divine and steadfast, then the powers of deities/devatas  (nikarustha samarthya) will have no effect on them. The Vedas do not tell us to go to god with fear or dread. The only truth is the path of devotion we follow in life must be pure and filled with divine serenity. Therefore, first, the virtuous qualities should color our lives.
