There are no limits to the fortune of those who are blessed by the divine.

Humans are always searching for some support or dependency in their lives. For some, this may be a reliance on money, for some on relationships, and for those who feel dejected or hopeless, it may also be substances.

Even if someone has access to all possible resources and facilities, it doesn’t necessarily imply that they are always satisfied with life. Rather, whether someone feels satisfied or not is more dependent on their mental state and strength. And mental strength can only be greatly increased through spiritual strength.

Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar says that to direct your life towards developing satvagunas (virtuous qualities), you must choose the permanent company of a love for the divine (Hariprem). One should exercise their love and wisdom in chanting the name of the divine form (Namasankirtan) and reflecting on the divine (Namachintan). The person that makes god their support, is the one who becomes unworried and fearless.

But, in society, we often get to see the opposite of this. Ordinary people, either disheartened during moments of crisis, or hoping for their current circumstances to last, seek out the support of someone who can tell them their fate/future such as an astrologer (jyotish)

Once, someone close to Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar, who strongly believed in astrology, asked, “Baba, what is in my fate?”

Baba said to him, “First figure out who you are and what is ‘yours.’ Then we can make your fate certain.”

The sadhak said, “Who am I? I am a man.”

In response, Baba simply said, “Then you are going to die.”

The sadhak said, “Even I know this.”

Baba replied, “So then what? What future or fate lies beyond that?”

The sadhak said, “No, but how rich will I be? Is my life going to be overall good or bad?”

Baba said to him, “What do you think should happen?”

He replied, “I want it to be good. Money, assets, wealth, I should have it all. I should happily and with complete contentment do Hari bhajan. It should all happen.”

Baba said, “Should I tell you how to get all this or should I tell you if it is going to happen?”

He said, “Tell me whether this will happen or not.”

Baba said to him, “None of this is written in your future. You will remain as you are right now and will live out the rest of your life exactly like this.”

The sadhak freaked out and began to ask Baba for a solution to this.

Baba just told him, “You will not be able to do it. If you were actually interested in a solution, then regardless of what is in store for your future, you should have done anything for the right thing to happen. Why are you so obsessed with your fate and future? People have to bring about their own futures. People can bring out their own futures, can bind their lives to spirituality and the divine.

So how is it that this future can be unfolded?

There are no limits to the fortune of those who are blessed by the divine, it is boundless. Developing a relationship with god is the most powerful, sacred and foundational chant. With that, consider your overall state and think about it with a pure mind and a dedication to the divine. And then, continue to live your life the way you can, with satisfaction.

Thinking about everything that could happen will eventually lead you to meet a reality where you do nothing and yet keep waiting for a ‘future’ to happen.

It is the one who is completely devoted and always in the presence of god, who is steadfast, stable and courageous.”
